Division of a Line Segment

Dividing a line segment in the ratio m:nm:n locates the point PP that splits the segment from AA to BB into those proportions. Its coordinates are (nx1+mx2m+n,ny1+my2m+n)\left(\frac{nx_1+mx_2}{m+n},\frac{ny_1+my_2}{m+n}\right).

This generalises the midpoint formula to any internal ratio.
