For many National Secondary School (SMK) students, Additional Mathematics is the subject that opens the pure-science stream and pathways such as matriculation, engineering, actuarial science and economics. It is an elective, and each school decides how it is offered, some make it core for science students, others let students opt in, so it is always worth checking with the school directly.

The single biggest predictor of a good Add Math grade is not raw talent, it is whether the Form 4 foundation is solid before Form 5 begins.
