Plan the two years
SPM Add Math exam-year calendar
Add Math runs across two years, and the students who do best treat it as a two-year plan, not a final-term sprint. Here is a realistic timeline, with the honest note that the exact SPM dates are announced by Lembaga Peperiksaan each year.
Form 4, the foundation year
Form 4 is where the whole subject is either won or quietly lost. The early months cover Functions, Quadratic Functions and the algebra that every later chapter assumes; by mid-year most schools reach Indices, Surds and Logarithms and Progressions; the later months bring Coordinate Geometry, Vectors and the first statistics.
The single most valuable thing a Form 4 student can do is refuse to let any of these foundations stay shaky, because Form 5 has no time to repair them. Aim to end Form 4 able to reproduce every standard method from a blank page.
Form 5, calculus and the run to the exam
Form 5 front-loads the high-mark, high-difficulty material: Circular Measure, then Differentiation and Integration, the calculus that decides so much of the grade, followed by Permutations & Combinations, Probability Distributions, Trigonometric Functions, Linear Programming and Kinematics. Because trial exams usually fall a couple of months before SPM, the sensible plan is to finish learning new content early, leaving a clear block for full, timed past-style papers and for closing the specific gaps the trials reveal.
Milestones to hold yourself to
- End of Form 4: every Form 4 chapter method reproducible without notes.
- Start of Form 5: revisit any shaky Form 4 foundation before calculus begins.
- Mid Form 5: calculus (Differentiation & Integration) solid, this is the highest-failure area.
- Before the trials: one full timed paper of each, self-marked honestly.
- Final stretch: past-style papers under timing; drill the two or three recurring mistakes; keep working legible for method marks.
On the exact SPM dates
We never guess the SPM timetable. Lembaga Peperiksaan (LP) announces the dates each year; our countdown tool shows “to be confirmed by LP” until then.
Plan from the number of weeks you realistically have and adjust when LP publishes.

When should my child start Add Math tuition?
The moment it stops feeling comfortable, ideally in Form 4, while foundations can still be fixed cheaply. It is rarely too late, but earlier is far easier.
Is the SPM date on this page official?
We do not print a specific SPM date until Lembaga Peperiksaan publishes it. This calendar is about the two-year study rhythm, not a fixed date.
How do the countdown and study-hours tools help?
The countdown turns weeks-remaining into a plan; the study-hours calculator suggests a sensible weekly target from your grade goal and time left. Both are free, on the Tools page.
